Share a publication, and what private and public mean for the people who open the link.
Share pins what you are reading
Share copies the address of the publication you have open, with the screen, the viewport and the color scheme you selected. A share link always pins that publication; it never follows the branch to a later one.
Sharing changes nothing about who may open the link. It gives no one access they did not already have.
Private and public projects
A project is private until you change it. Share from a private project and the dialog says Project members can open this link. Share from a public one and it says Anyone with the link can view.
Public makes publications readable to anyone holding a link. It grants no write access, and making the project private again ends that reading on the next request.
Opening a link you were sent
Opening a private link while signed out brings you back to that exact link once you sign in. If you still do not have access, the page says you need access to the project and offers a way back to your organizations; it tells you nothing about what is inside. A link to a publication that has been deleted or has expired says the publication is unavailable.
Access is checked on every request
Every request checks access again. Removing someone from a project, or turning a public project private, takes effect the next time they ask for anything.
